SHEERGARD® radomes offer a long life cycle for lower overall costs. The material’s Teflon coating provides superior life-long hydrophobic performance, so no reapplication of surface finish is ever required. The electrical consumption of SHEERGARD® products is low to non-existent.
In SHEERGARD® air-supported radomes, a continuously operating 2-HP motor operates at a 70% rating where the normal power consumption for the radome pressurization system is approximately 1300 watts. Secondary blowers and ancillary equipment as required.
Furthermore, the internal air pressure from the pressure system offers constant tension, therefore, no re-tensioning of the material is required. Consequently, minimal maintenance is required for the pressure sustem. The robust, reliable pressurization system design means only minimal periodic prevention is required.
Hydrophobicity of a radome outer surface is critical to reducing additional transmission loss during rain conditions. Since water has a high dielectric constant and loss tangent, even a thin film of water on the radome surface during rain conditions will produce much higher transmission losses.
A hydrophobic radome surface causes the water to form small beads and to run off in small rivulets instead of forming a sheet of water in front of the entire antenna aperture.
Durable hydrophobic surfaces provide optimum RF performance over the life of the product.
Fluropolymer surfaces for long lasting weathering performance, ensuring structural integrity and very low maintenance.
