Special Configurations

Although the spherical radome is the most common SHEERGARD® concept, there are instances which require special material configurations. Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics is proud of its ability to develop solutions for the specific needs of customers, as shown in the examples below. Special Configurations Carousel Integration

SHEERGARD-Shipboard-Radome

Shipboard Radome

Developed to protect several sensitive antennas mounted on a surveillance ship operating under severe northern sea environments. Fabricated with M49 material, it is pretensioned horizontally and pressurized to develop a stable biaxial stress. The pressure is varied in accordance with wind and sea conditions.

SHEERGARD-Hybrid-Radome

Hybrid Radome

Combining dual wall and single wall radome techniques permits both easy access to test antennas and critical free space qualification measurements. In many cases the antenna arrays are for space applications which can not tolerate any wind loading.

SHEERGARD-Negative-Pressure-Radome

Negative Pressure Radome

Negative pressure is used to secure the two SHEERGARD® M42 radomes used in this special configuration. The transmitter and receiver within are each protected by one piece assemblies. The one-piece design has eliminated joint failures and water leakage experienced with a prior rigid panel construction.

SHEERGARD-CN-Tower

CN Tower

A unique 360 degree SHEERGARD® M49 enclosure provides performance including complete protection for equipment and servicing, flexibility for future antenna changes with uninterupted viewing, and a smooth exterior to prevent snow and ice accumulation.

SHEERGARD-Transportable-Radome

Transportable Radome

Designed to be easily transported, lightweight and quickly erected, this 18ft. radome is fabricated using SHEERGARD SX12. The radome features a catenary syle base attachment to permit setup on varying ground conditions, and has a hoop type airlock to permit entry of large antenna components.

SHEERGARD-Multiple-Antenna-Tower

Multiple Antenna Tower

A vertically pretensioned SHEERGARD membrane with internal pressure provides stable, biaxially stressed cylinders. Each radome throughout the tower is a single,continuous horizontal piece with no vertical seams.

With a team of structural, mechanical and PE certified engineers on site, the Fabricated Systems group within the SHEERGARD® team is able to tailor their knowledge of composite and fabric structures to any need.
