Maintenance
SHEERGARD® composites are designed for a minimum 20-year service life under severe environmental conditions. This robust and reliable design requires minimal maintenance. A PTFE (Teflon®) coating is fused to material creating a hydrophobic structure that never requires painting, re-coating or caulking over the 20 year design life.
Pressure systems have a robust and modular subassembly design allowing for reliable operation and easy part replacement. Any system fault can be effortlessly detected and traced.
Preventative and corrective maintenance services are available.
- Preventative services include envelope and base ring inspections. Envelope inspections are performed to identify any holes, tears or abrasions in the radome which can be caused by wind-blown debris. These inspections include checking all design features (crown plates, auxiliary lightning plates, airlock assemblies, etc.). The base ring is inspected to verify that no slippage has occurred and that all material has remained properly sealed.
- Air inflated radome preventative services include pressure system inspections. Pressure system belts, bearings, tubes, and flapper valves are inspected and serviced as needed. Performance testing and accuracy verification services are also available and include low and high pressure blower testing and pressure switch and wind speed transmitter verification.
- Corrective maintenance is typically limited to repairs of cuts or holes in the radome panel and film repairs to the outer surface where the Teflon® coating has been damaged by wind-blown debris. These repairs are performed following the same process that is used at the manufacturing facility and produce quality and reliable repairs. A self-contained repair kit is available will all required supplies for these repairs.
