In 1962, a SHEERGARD radome was installed in a small town called Pleumeur Bodou on the west coast of France. The radome is 64m in diameter, uses 9,000m 2 of fabric, weighs 27,000 kgs, and is still working 33 years beyond its original design life of 20 years. In fact, today it is used as a museum dedicated to telecommunications and the radome is the feature attraction although the antenna located inside is no longer operational. To ensure that this structure is sound and safe, a group of our Fabricated Systems engineers will be on site in June of this year to inspect the dome and remove samples for structural integrity testing as well as advising on maintenance to allow this radome to be continue in use for decades to come and be a source of amazement to the thousands of visitors who come each year. Performing Under Pressure for over 53 years!
