Saint-Gobain showcased a variety of innovative products and technologies at the Paris Air Show on June 17-20. Attended by nearly 140,000 industry professionals, the Paris Air Show is the world’s largest aerospace event. The Saint-Gobain booth featured the company’s broad portfolio of products which includes transparencies, radomes, seals and tapes.
Saint-Gobain displayed its flagship SHEERGARD™ Universal radome, a ARINC 791 compliant set of radome and skirt. The Universal radome is configured for most Boeing and Airbus aircraft models and is compatible with most antennas on the market. This adaptable design enables speed to market and minimizes inventory and installation time.
Available in variants covering Ku-Band, Ka-Band and Tri-Band frequencies, the next-generation offerings of the Universal radome are optimized using MAXIO, Saint-Gobain’s proprietary design technology. MAXIO balances multiple parameters (such as RF transparency, strength, weight and cost), and evaluates millions of design options, to arrive at an optimal design. In creating the Next-Gen Universal radome, MAXIO assessed over two million candidate configurations to determine the best radome design.
Saint-Gobain also displayed components manufactured using the company’s advanced 3D automated lay-up process. This unique weft knitted technology allows for the production of complex composite parts with a single preform and delivers significant advantages over alternative technologies, including high reproducibility, reduced cycle time, and no scrap or material waste.
“The Paris Air Show presents an excellent opportunity for Saint-Gobain to highlight our innovations and diverse product offering for the aerospace market,” comments Scott-Huth, General Manager, Saint-Gobain Aerospace. “From impact-resistant and highly durable cockpit windows, to the most RF transparent radar shields and advanced adhesive and sealing materials, Saint-Gobain is proud to supply innovative, high quality products.”
Saint-Gobain closed the show with an “open house” event to celebrate being named a Top 100 Global Innovator. This award from Clarivate Analytics recognizes the quantity, quality and impact of Saint-Gobain patents. The company has received this prestigious award for eight consecutive years.
